The leopards in the Masbate Game Reserve are difficult to
photograph. But this time Skye was lucky. After tracking these felines for a
few hours, he met Mathura, a well-known female. At a fleeting moment, just
before he went to sleep, he captured a serene image of this majestic creature.
Named after local guides, Mathura means "the one who
walks limping," a title given to him after a serious leg injury when he
was a puppy. Although his chances of survival were slim, he is now a healthy
adult. She is one of the lucky ones: this species has been classified as
vulnerable and many leopards are illegally hunted for their sought-after furs.
